Show up where decisions are made
City Council, the LA County Board of Supervisors, LAUSD, Metro, and dozens of commissions hold public meetings where any resident can speak. Most decisions affecting your neighborhood begin here.
Attend a City Council meeting
The LA City Council meets weekly at City Hall. Meetings are open to the public. You can watch, listen, and sign up to give public comment on any agenda item.
How to do it
Arrive early to sign up for public comment. You typically get two minutes. Bring a written statement. Focus on one specific ask.
Attend a Board of Supervisors meeting
The LA County Board of Supervisors governs the largest county in the US, overseeing public health, social services, the Sheriff, and more. Meetings are held at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles.
How to do it
Review the agenda in advance at bos.lacounty.gov. Public comment registration opens at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting at publiccomment.lacounty.gov. Remote call-in is also available at (213) 444-2600.
Attend your Neighborhood Council meeting
LA has 102 Neighborhood Councils that advise the City Council on local issues. They meet monthly, are open to all residents, and have real influence on planning, development, and budget priorities.
How to do it
Find your Neighborhood Council at neighborhoodempowerment.lacity.gov. Meetings are free, local, and often held in the evening.
