Your vote is your voice. Registration takes five minutes and unlocks your power in every election, from President to your local school board.

How to register

Check eligibility

You must be a U.S. citizen, a California resident, at least 18 years old by Election Day, and not currently serving a state or federal prison term for a felony conviction.

Register online

Use the California Secretary of State's official portal. It takes about 5 minutes. You'll need your CA driver's license or ID number, or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.

Confirm your registration

After registering, you'll receive a confirmation card in the mail. You can also verify your status anytime using the Check Registration tool.

Know your rights

California has expanded voting rights significantly. Many people who think they can't vote actually can.

You have the right to vote if you are on parole (since 2020)

You have the right to vote if you have a felony conviction but are not currently incarcerated

You have the right to vote if you are on probation

You have the right to an accessible polling place and assistance if needed

You have the right to vote in your language. Interpreters are available.
